Yogi of the Month - July

Writer's picture: Beth McGowanBeth McGowan

Congratulations to Hayley as our Yogi of the Month! I could see the difference yoga was making in her life even after your first class when you went all in with a membership and new mat! I enjoy seeing her confidence grow on the mat as I believe her confidence is growing off her mat as well. I am so grateful for your loving heart in our studio! ~Beth

How long have you been doing yoga (what's your yoga journey)?

After a long time telling myself I want/need to try yoga, I finally did it in Mexico in January of this year with my sister and my cousin in a second-story open-air casa overlooking the ocean. I was hooked! About a month later, I ran into a friend who told me about Beth’s new studio in Bangor, Be Still Yoga. The first class was free, so I decided there was no time like the present! Beth does an amazing job welcoming new people, and I immediately felt comfortable, accepted, and capable. I believe I signed up to be a member that same day. I now make yoga a weekly part of my life, which has helped my confidence tremendously.

What is your favorite class & why? I love Gentle Yoga and Gentle Strength. These classes push me at the right speed. As a middle-aged woman (ugh, did I just say that?), my balance and strength have diminished over time due to neglect and simply not accepting the aging process. When I leave Gentle Yoga and Gentle Strength, I feel strong, balanced, and aware of my body. I look forward to trying other classes as my confidence grows.

What is your favorite yoga pose?

My favorite yoga pose is Tree Pose. I love this pose because it takes focus, strength, balance, and breathing to achieve. I know I am having a good day when I can stand strong and confident in Tree Pose.

What keeps you coming back to yoga?

I want/need yoga to be a routine in my life because it helps me build confidence in myself physically and mentally. I walk taller when I leave the Be Still Yoga studio.

What would you tell someone who is considering trying yoga? If you are considering incorporating yoga into your life, do not wait. The benefits it brings are worth the hour of your day.

Something about me:

In my free time, I enjoy being in the woods or on the water with my husband and kids. I am working on building a strong body from the inside out and becoming a more avid reader. (Book recommendations welcome!)
